With over 36 years of experience as a civil engineer, Zewdu Haileyesus moved to the United States from Ethiopia twelve years ago to seek political asylum and a better opportunity for his family. In Ethiopia, he oversaw major building and development projects fromroads and schools to hospitals.
Zewdu received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Addis Ababa with a major in civil engineering, with a minor in architecture. Zewdu studied town planning and urban development at Ministere de L` Equipment in France.
He possesses a wide range of practical knowledge and experiential expertise, holding over 5 different certifications and licenses. He is also fluent in English, French, and Amheric (the language of Ethiopia).
Mr. Haileyesus has lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, but he calls Washington, D.C. his home, saying he can’t imagine moving from the wonderful city.
